Artistic Statement

Relatability is a highly sought-after aspect of media. This is especially true in an era where art can be shared instantly with millions of people. Humans want to appreciate their sameness, and to know that others feel what they are feeling.
I aspire to create media that inspires empathy--perhaps even in places where one wouldn't expect to find it. This is why I love the process of interviewing--no matter how different the life of the person that you interview is, there always seem to be moments of peacefully mundane sameness between the subject and the listener. The feeling of quietly noticing this sameness is something I have always found fulfilling:  a shared emotion, a common ideal, a favorite breakfast.
I would love to create something with a subject which an average viewer initially believes they could never relate to, only to find they recognize parts of themselves. I truly believe it is possible to recognize some fraction of yourself in everyone around you, and that this is one of the most powerful keys to making work that is impactful.

Specifically, a common theme I find myself interested in is the relatability--or more often the taboo--of sexuality. I have always been interested in the machinations of American culture and why it seems to reject positive attitudes towards sex so often. I ideally aim to challenge these cultural norms in my most recent interviews with escorts, strippers, and sugar-babies alike. I think people should try to challenge not only themselves, but their assumptions of others.
